On 13-15 November 2017, the fourth German-Ukrainian Food Forum took place in Kyiv as part of the German Weeks 2017 in Ukraine. The Forum, held in the framework of German-Ukrainian agricultural cooperation, was organised with the support of the German Embassy in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the German-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The event brought together representatives of 38 companies active in the German and Ukrainian food industry. Representatives of several leading German companies such as Acrobräu, Heinrichsthaler Milchwerke GmbH, Königsbauer, Landhof Konzept GmbH, Moselland and others were among attendees of the event.

More than 100 guests attended the conference with speeches addressing the situation on the food markets in Germany and Ukraine and the food fair at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Kyiv. At the food fair, the attendees had a chance to taste local foods from both countries. Furthermore, the representatives of businesses had an opportunity to hold B2B talks and exchange expert information first-hand.

The Food Forum shall contribute to strengthening bilateral trade between Germany and Ukraine in the agricultural and food industry. More and more German companies show their interest for Ukrainian products. In turn, Ukraine values and makes use of the opportunities of the free trade zone between the European Union and Ukraine and is paving its way toward Europe.

In 2016, German imports of agricultural products and foodstuffs from Ukraine exceeded the German exports of the same to Ukraine. In particular, exports of agricultural and food products from Ukraine to Germany in 2016 amounted to EUR 326 million. This constitutes an increase of 40.6% compared to 2015. Exports of agricultural products and foodstuffs from Germany to Ukraine amounted to EUR 267 million in 2016, which constitutes an increase of 12% compared to the previous year.

Next year, Ukrainian food producers also intend to attend international trade fairs as part of the German-Ukrainian agricultural cooperation in order to promote Ukrainian products.
