The countries of the Persian Gulf are becoming increasingly attractive to Ukrainian travellers. In August 2017, Qatar has waived visa requirements for Ukrainians. Thus, they now can stay in the emirate for up to 30 days. In addition, the regulations on the visa-free entry to the UAE shall enter into force in December exempting all Ukrainian citizens from the UAE visas.
Due to the crisis in the Arab states of the Persian Gulf, Qatar has liberalised the entry requirements for citizens of 80 countries, including Ukrainian citizens, as reported by Qatar Ministry of Interior, Qatar Tourism Board and Qatar Airways. The visa waiver came into force on 9 August 2017.
In order to obtain an entry permit (free of charge) upon entry, travellers only need to have a valid passport. Thus, travellers from 33 countries are allowed to stay in the emirate for up to 90 days within a period of 180 days. These countries include Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, France, Turkey and most EU countries. The citizens of Ukraine – as well as the citizens of another 46 countries – are eligible to stay in Qatar for up to 30 days. In addition, Ukrainian citizens may apply for an extension of their stay in Qatar for another 30 days.
With the waiver of the visa requirement (for all 80 countries), Qatar is to become the “most open” country for foreign travellers. Visa liberalization aims to ensure that Qatar continues to be considered an attractive destination for leisure and business travellers around the world.
In addition, during the official state visit of the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to the UAE in the beginning of November, Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates agreed to waive the visa requirement for Ukrainians. The visa-free entry shall take effect in the beginning of December 2017. Thus, all Ukrainian nationals are exempted from the visa requirement when entering the UAE for a short stay. Both countries should benefit from the visa waiver since, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, over 112 thousand Ukrainians visited the UAE last year alone.
